Emberfall Chronicles
Emberfall Chronicles is the kind of RPG you keep meaning to play for ten minutes and then look up an hour later. You gather a party of misfits across a crumbling border kingdom, and the writing is good enough that I actually read the optional dialogue, which almost never happens on mobile.
Combat is turn-based and leans on positioning, so you're not just mashing attack. There's a proper auto-battle toggle for grinding, but the harder fights demand you take manual control. On a phone the menus are tidy and the font scales well, which I appreciated on a smaller screen.
Battery use is moderate for a game this detailed, and it has a frame-rate cap in settings that noticeably extends playtime. The only real downside is the download size — set aside some storage before you start.
What we liked
- Writing worth actually reading
- Tactical turn-based fights with auto-battle backup
