The settings menu is where battery life hides
We get a lot of messages about games 'destroying' battery life, and most of the time the fix is sitting in the settings menu, unused. Developers often ship with everything maxed out for the demo reel, and it's on us to dial it back.
First stop is always the frame-rate cap. A lot of games default to the highest your screen allows, which looks silky but burns power. Dropping to 30 or 60 fps where offered can add serious minutes without ruining anything but the fastest action games.
Next, look for an effects or quality slider. Particle effects, dynamic shadows and bloom lighting are the usual culprits for heat. On racing and arcade games especially, knocking quality down one notch keeps the phone cool and the hands happy.
Finally, check for a background or offline mode. Some sims keep simulating while you're away and quietly drain things. A good offline-progress option means the game pauses instead of grinding in the background. Hunt these toggles down before you blame the game.
